Gravel Driveway Calculator
Cubic Yard= [Length (Ft) X Width (Ft) X Depth (Ft)] / 27
Tonnage= Cubic Yard X 1.4
The Formula:
- Calculate Cubic Yards:
- Measure: Determine the length, width, and depth of the area where you need the aggregate, ensuring all measurements are in feet.
- Volume: Multiply length x width x depth to get the volume in cubic feet.
- Convert to Cubic Yards: Divide the volume in cubic feet by 27 to get the volume in cubic yards.
- Estimate Tons:
- Conversion Factor: Multiply the cubic yards by a conversion factor to estimate the weight in tons. This factor varies depending on the type of aggregate (gravel, sand, etc.).
- General Rule: A common rule of thumb is to multiply cubic yards by 1.4 to estimate tons for most gravel and crushed stone products.
- Specific Materials:
- Fine Materials (sand): Cubic yards x 1.5 = tons.
- Coarse Materials (gravel or limestone): Cubic yards x 1.65 = tons.
- Gravel: Cubic yards x 1.4 = tons.
- Washed Gravel: Cubic yards x 1.4-1.6 = tons.
- Screened Stone: Cubic yards x 1.65 = tons.
- Sand: Cubic yards x 1.5 = tons.
